Advaita Sabha is a grassroots level organization founded by spiritual masters and social reformers; Chattampi Swamikal, Narayana Guru, Neelakanta Theerthapada, Theerthapada Parmahamsa, and Arampil Govindhan Unnithan at Arampil House in Vallikunnam in 1890s. Along with spreading teh message of Swamikal it promoted the works of Ayyankali, K P Karuppan, Kumbalath Sanku Pillai, Mannath Padmanabhan and other renaissance leaders.
Advaita Sabha; for almost two decades functioned as a scholarly assembly at the Arampil Tharavad hosted by Arampil Govindhan Unnithan who later accepted sanyas and came to be known as Govindha Brahmanubhuthi. It facilitated the meeting and discussion of scholars and progressive thinkers to come together and discuss societal issues, present their views, ideas, and writings, and engage in critical examination, argumentation, and dissemination of thoughts to people through other assemblies and regions. The ideas Advaita Sabha and sister organizations spread in society infused reformation and renaissance in Kerala. Such grassroots assemblies initiated by Swamikal and his disciples and friends in different regions of Kerala served as centres where future social, cultural, literary, and political leaders were moulded. The contribution of Advaita Sabha to all spheres of life in Kerala has no parallel. Between 1890 and 1915 numerous books and monographs intended to spread progressive ideas were published and widely distributed from Arampi house. A journal named 'Dharmam' was regularly published. The talks and discussions at the Sabha were published as articles or notes in the contemporary newspapers and journals. Advaita Sabha, which remained active till second decade of twentieth century came to an abrupt end with the unexpected demise of Arampil Govindhan Unnithan. But the seeds it sowed in Kerala society sprouted all over the region and gave shade to numerous organization and movements that achieved an equalitarian society and modernized Kerala. The present Advaita Sabha is a revival of the nineteenth century organization with headquarters at the same village but as a national level expert group aiming to bring together other similar organizations, intellectuals and progressive thinkers under one umbrella to discuss and create awareness among the people about the issues that threaten the countries' culture, spirituality and security and to evolve solutions to advice government and concerned organizations..
The meeting of 24.08.2024 approved the revival of Advaita Sabaha and its aims to function as a venue to bring together intellectuals and progressive thinkers to discuss and create awareness on countries, culture, spirituality and security and do what ever is essential to adhere to Sanathana Dharma.
